Marvel Moving New Warriors To Another Network

Marvel’s upcoming live action series, New Warriors, which will include Squirrel Girl, was supposed to be heading to Disney’s Freeform channel, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, the 30 minute comedy show will be moved to another outlet, which could be the new Disney owned streaming service, which is set to launch in 2019.  The show is set to include 10 episodes .

Freeform is expanding its original programming to four nights a week in 2018 can’t find a slot for the show and Marvel are taking the show somewhere else.

“We are extremely excited about Marvel’s New Warriors and look forward to finding the perfect partner to launch the series with in 2018,” said Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment in a statement to Hollywood Reporter.

Since Disney revealed it was creating its own Streaming Service, it has been reported that Marvel is no longer able to sell to outside companies, like they do with Netflix.  However since that network isn’t suppose to start until 2019, Marvel apparently want the show out in 2018.

With so many shows from Marvel such as ABC’s Agents of SHIELD and Inhumans; The Defenders on Netflix, Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger, Hulu’s The Runaways; FX’s Legion, animated Deadpool and Fox’s The Gifted.  It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the New Warriors was held back for Disney’s own service, especially as they won’t want to sign new contracts for their content.

What do you think of the New Warriors going elsewhere?
