20th Century Fox In Talks To Sell Most Of The Company To Disney

Marvel fans have been wanting Fox to sell back its movie rights for certain characters like the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool, to Disney, which look like it might be one step closer as reports from CNBC are that 21st Century Fox has been holding talks to sell most of the company to Disney, especially the TV and movie side of the company with Fox continuing as a media company focused on news and sports.

Talks have been taking place over the last few weeks and nothing has been officially signed, as the talks have been on and off.    There have also been talks in the past over television programs like The Gifted and with X-Men movies taking less at the box office, it could be less profitable for them to create movies now.

With the changing medium of how viewers consume media, Fox haven’t been able to change quick enough.  And for Disney, having more control over another movie studio and television companies, like those currently making Marvel shows like Legion and the Gifted, would fit its strategy.

Disney would not purchase all of Fox, according to people with knowledge of the talks since Disney could not own two broadcast networks in the US, but they could take control over international companies like Sky, Star plus channels like FX and National Geographic.  Disney also wouldn’t be able to take control of Fox’s sports network due to it being anti-competitive for customers with Disney owning ESPN.

Officials at Disney and Fox declined to comment to CNBC about the deal.

So could we see Disney regain full control of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four?
