Star Wars Battlefront 2 Physical Sales Down 60% On Star Wars Battlefront 1

Last week saw the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, both of which made the top 10 of games sold in the UK in retail stores according to UK numbers company Chart-Track. However these results don’t include digital purchases through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Marketplace.

However, the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was dogged by one of the biggest controversies in gaming, due to its microtransactions. And Star Wars Battlefront 2 launched with 60 per cent fewer physical sales than Star Wars Battlefront 1, which was the best selling Star Wars game ever in the UK.

This does follow a trend of games selling less in retail stores, as more gamers go digital. Recently Destiny 2 launched with 50% more digital sales than the original game. I myself purchased Star Wars Battlefront on a disc from a retailer and then went digital for Battlefront 2, so this news might not fully reflect the sales of the game. However retailers won’t be happy that they are selling less year on year.

Here is a look at the top 10:

  • Call of Duty: WW2
  • Star Wars Battlefront 2
  • FIFA 18
  • Pokémon Ultra Sun
  • Pokémon Ultra Moon
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • The Sims 4
  • LA Noire Remastered
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
