Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey #2 Review

The second issue of Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey sees the X-Men work out who is behind all the weird incidents and with all their psychic members missing, it means they have to split it to find them and try to track down the Phoenix.

This issue is much stronger than the previous one, the team are now working together and spread out, though it also suffers from having too many characters, with the majority coming across as cameos.  I liked how we got to see much more of the X-Men in action, though there was only one action scene, which also includes some great comedy from Iceman.

The addition of Magneto as a “Villain” is a welcome bonus, as much as the Phoenix is a major threat to the planet, the humanisation of Jean Grey reduces that, so having Erik involved on the other side also gave this issue an interesting aspect.

It’s also good to see this mini-series being released weekly, everything is still fresh in my mind and speeds through the story in just over a month compared to 5 months, had it been monthly.

The artistic style continues on from the last issue and the writing continues to be top notch with lots of things going on at once, yet still keeping readers invested plus delivering Easter Eggs for those hardcore fans.

OVERALL: Issue 2 continues the great story involving the return of Jean Grey and hopefully some other X-Men characters.  While there might be too many characters to do them all justice, it’s great to see the X-Men back on top form lately.  If you haven’t already got into this series and love the X-Men, this is a excellent series so far.
