Coco, Star Wars, Beauty & The Beast Nominated At The BAFTAS

The EE British Academy Film Awards Nominations for 2018 have been announced and both Disney and Fox have picked up many nominations, in almost every category between them.

For Disney, Coco nominated for Best Animated Movie, while both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and “Beauty and the Beast” picking up some technical award nominations.

With Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok star, Tessa Thompson also being nominated for “Rising Star”, which is the only award voted for by the public.

While Fox picked up nominations for many of their movies including The Shape Of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The EE British Academy Film Awards will take place on Sunday, 18 February at the Royal Albert Hall. Sponsored by EE, the Awards will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One and BBC One HD.

My Take:  One thing that is very apparent from this list of nominations and from the recent Golden Globes, is how Fox movies have a much stronger presence compared to Disney, which focus on more mainstream movies, which do well at the box office but aren’t seen as “critic choices”.  Showing why Disney buying up Fox, would help them fill in a gap in the movie market, that they aren’t capitalising on.
