Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny Hera Review

The third issue of the Force Of Destiny series is focused on Hera, where she lands on a planet that is being force to grow food by the Empire, which Hera and her droid Chopper held to stop.

This issue has an advantage over the previous issues involving Rey and Princess Leia, in that Hera isn’t as well known and they have a little more scope to flesh out the character, since they don’t have to connect with the movies.   This has resulted in a issue that isn’t just a retelling of one of the movies and is something original, which made it much more enjoyable that the previous issues based on Leia and Rey.

While the story of Hera sabotaging the Empire’s efforts in order to make them lose interest in the outpost is an simple one, but works well, especially for this series, which is aimed at a wider and younger audience.   This targeted demographic also results in a artist style that is much more simpler, there is less detail and very bright colors.

There isn’t a whole lot of action in this issue, but its more about pushing Hera as a likable Rebel, who is capable of dealing with the Empire, inspiring others and also a excellent pilot.

For older fans, the main Star Wars series by Marvel is a better recommendation, but for younger Star Wars fans, this series is a great introduction to comics and being a single story makes it much easier to jump into.

OVERALL: A simple but effective Star Wars title, which is aimed at a younger audience and successfully hits all the core Star Wars elements.  But the addition of a large talking otter and the simplistic story does mean older Star Wars fans should avoid, but make it perfect pickup for a younger reader.
