Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey #4 Review
Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey issue #4 sees the X-Men finally catch up with the Phoenix and Jean Grey, who has been locked away within a weird “egg”, which is keeping Jean Grey in a “mirage”, keeping the real world away, while the Phoenix grows in strength.
Seeing the X-Men joining together to battle some “Dead” members of their team, while trying to get close to Jean Grey, with some of the team seeing just the danger of the Phoenix, while those older members wanting to do their best to save their friend.
There are some problems with this series, especially pace, its the fourth issue and finally we see the Phoenix and the X-Men come face to face, but its been plodding along and once again, very little happens in this issue, bar a “battle” with “Dead” members of the team, but even that quickly gets thrown to the side, rather than being an epic showdown. But at least we now have a clearer idea of what is going on.
The artwork continues its excellent trend, the colors and detail in the flames just looks so impress, especially the shot of a huge flaming Phoenix on top of the diner is simply amazing and puts across the real danger to readers.
OVERALL: The last big issue before the end of this series ends with a cliffhanger and delivers a disappointing resolve to the return of “dead” X-Men, after months of building it up before this series was even released, just got thrown aside, which is a shame. I’m really hoping the final issue ends on a better note as this has been a very slow building mini-series.
