WDW Review: Snacks at the BaseLine Tap House

Last month while at Walt Disney World, I took the time in my travels through Disney’s Hollywood Studios to visit a new eatery anchoring the reimagined area that is now Grand Avenue. Located where the old Writers Stop shop used to be, BaseLine Tap House brings the flavors of California brews and wine in a casual pub setting.

Inside BaseLine, you will find the walls decorated with items from the “historical predecessor” to the pub. Prior to serving drinks and snacks, the space was used by the Figueroa Printing Company. Throughout the inside, you can see artifacts from the building’s earlier days.

I am not a drinker, so for me what I was there to do was try the few snack items that they offer. However, before I take a closer look at them, here is a look at the full menu.

Note: As with most locations in Walt Disney World, the menu is subject to change… usually without much notice.

I was there on two different occasions, and each time I decided to try a couple of items from that back page. The first go around, I had the Bavarian Pretzel and the Blue Sky Black Cherry Soda.

I am a pretzel guy, and I love the pretzel from the Triken Cart in Germany at Epcot. This pretzel is just as good… and comes with a delicious beer cheese fondue. Probably could use more of the fondue, though. Not enough (but I love cheese as well). The soda was really smooth and tasty. Might not be something I have every time I am there, but I will be back for the pretzel.

The second time I was there this trip, I tried both of the other snack items: the Spiced Almonds and the California Cheese and Charcuterie board. A Porg joined me this time around.

The spiced almonds are not anything special. I find them similar enough to the other spiced almond offerings at various locations in WDW that getting them here is not necessary. However, the charcuterie board was delicious. Three different kinds of cheese, two different meats (I was promised neither one was made of Porg), cornichons, grapes, and some pieces of toasted bread. Like the pretzel, I will be back most likely to have this. Well worth the $10 price tag.

There is plenty of seating, some inside but a lot outside on the open patio. Granted, on cold or rainy days, inside probably would be preferred, but I sat outside both times, watching people traverse the area.

Homage to the Pacific Electric “Red Cars”.

Needless to say, when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens next year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this will more than likely be a very busy venue. Right now, because of the construction around Grand Avenue, it is somewhat quiet around this area, with only the Muppets area in Grand Park open beyond BaseLine Tap House. So, if you want to experience this place (which you should), try and do it.

Before I go, some people have asked me what Grand Avenue and Grand Park look like, as they take in elements from the former Muppets Courtyard and Streets of America (well, only one block of the facade nearest Sci-Fi Dine-In where BaseLine is located). While the area is nice, and very open, I do miss the beauty of Streets of America. Right now, this dead end area is being used as a Meet & Greet location for characters like Goofy and Chip & Dale (weather permitting). Also back is the Muppets Fountain, albeit smaller and missing Gonzo, Fozzie, Animal, and a lot of its’ magic. However, it’s better that that insane planter that was installed.

Anyways, here is a look at Grand Avenue and Grand Park, including the major entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
