Toys R Us To Close Another 200 Stores

Toys R Us is reportedly planning on closing another 200 stores in the United States, which will result in them laying off “a significant portion of its corporate staff”.

This is in addition to the previously announced 170 Toys R Us stores that will be closing in April, which has seen 4500 staff lose their jobs.   Which means it’s planning on closing nearly 400 stores, almost half of its stores in the US.

Sources told The Wall Street Journal “discussions about the store closings are continuing, and the number of closures could change.”

Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in September and the news has impacted on Toy companies like Hasbro and LEGO, who make toys for Disney.  Toys R Us have struggled to compete with stores like Target, Walmart and online retailers like Amazon, who have made it easier for customers to buy toys.
