Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time Soundtrack Review

Disney’s latest live action movie, A Wrinkle In Time, comes with an interesting album, incorporating both a soundtrack and score.  The movie is an adaptation of the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle and the story follows a young girl through inter-dimensional time and space to find her missing father.

The soundtrack portion features many family friendly Pop talents like Sia, Demi Lovato, DJ Khaled and Sade. These six tracks are all new and original, which all keep in line with the movies message.

“I Believe” by DJ Khaled featuring Demi Lovato, is one of the biggest tracks off the album and a personal favourite of mine.  It’s big and over the top pop, but I love it.  It’ll no doubt be a popular song that will be a big chart hit, since its a great radio friendly song.

Another great track off this album is “Magic” by Sia, who I’ve enjoyed listening to in the past, so it’s good to hear another big pop song that fits the feel of this movie perfectly and is certainly one of the highlights from this album.

There are also two versions of “Flower of the Universe”, which is Sade’s first track in over seven years.  They are both slightly different but I prefer the strings version, since they took the drums out.  Both versions are very haunting and worth checking out.

There are two fine tracks, Kehlani’s “Let Me Live,” and “Warrior” by Chloe x Halle, which are standard RnB tracks, but they seemed a bit generic but perfectly OK to fill out the album.

The oddest track off the album is “Park Bench People”, which sounds like something from a Jazz club and feels completely different to anything else.  It’s my least favourite song from the soundtrack portion of the album.

The score is composed by Ramin Djawadi, who has worked on the Game of Thrones and Iron Man.  It consists of 15 score tracks, many of which blend into one another and aren’t stand out songs individually.  But for a Score,  this isn’t abnormal since it’s role is to help tell a story on the screen.   The main “Wrinkle In Time” theme is one of my favourite songs from the score section of the album, its uplifting and very relaxing.

OVERALL:

Disney’s A Wrinkle Of Time Soundtrack is a nice collection, mixing together new family friendly songs with a great score, which works well.  If you enjoy this movie, it’s worth checking out but if your only interested in the main tracks from Sia and Demi Lovato, you can’t go wrong with downloading them individually rather than the whole album.
