Star Wars Adventures #8 Review

Star Wars Adventure #8 features two stories, “Endangered Part 2” and “Gonk”, both featuring artwork and a style perfect for younger readers.

The main story is the second part of “Endangered”, which sees the Rebels team trying to rescue some endangered animals from the Empire.  This is a really enjoyable story that has a cute style and shows a different side of the conflict of the Empire, one less focused on characters and more on life as a whole.

As while everyone focuses on the death of millions across the galaxy at the hands of the Empire or First Order, we are used to seeing animals as nothing more than big creatures used by humans as vehicles or monsters.   It also helps tell a story about wildlife and its connection to people, as animals are important to cultures, so it’s a nice side to show.  Though younger readers might not get that side, but it’s good for adults.

Seeing Kanan using the Force to make a connection with the creatures is another highlight of the story.

The second story “Gonk” is all about a Jawa, who loves a droid like a pet or friend, and they do everything together but ultimately let’s it go live with a family for a better life.  It’s very cute, both in terms of context and the art style, I just love how the Jawa’s look.

OVERALL:

I really enjoyed this issue, it’s cute, it’s fun and sometimes I feel Star Wars loses that sometimes as older fans forget Star Wars was created for families and children.  This comic is like a Saturday morning cartoon and I think it’s exactly what younger fans should check out.
