Lion King Show Coming Soon To The Chaparral Theatre In Disneyland Paris

The big announcement about the Chaparral Theater in Frontierland wasn’t really a surprise. We knew we’d be getting a new show, and, the rumor was pretty solid that the show would be Lion King based. Which turns out to be right. Disneyland Paris made the following announcement:

Favoured characters such as Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa, along with the iconic songs and the classic story from the film, will come to life onstage for a brand new musical production based on The Lion King in a newly renovated Chaparral Theater in Disneyland Park.

Thoughts

It’s early days yet but, well, we’ve had a Lion King show before? I mean the stage show is spectacular and given the couple of picture’s we’ve seen it looks like we are following that. I get that the Lion King is a hugely popular property and that, you know, might as well promote the stage show too. But it just seems a little, I don’t know, lazy? And quite difficult to get excited about.

However, I get that I might be in the minority in thinking that. I’m sure the show will be great, look amazing, and that a lot of people will be really interested in going to see it. I just think a more up to date property might have been better. Or at least a new take on the Lion King. The live action adaption of the Lion King is coming up however which might render my whole point mute. After all the stage adaption could potentially fit better with that. I don’t know. For me it’s just a disappointment to see something that seems like a major retread. To give due credit judgment can only really be made once we see it. And, well, Disneyland Paris have a strong history with creating some great shows so there is that. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
