Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Coming To Fortnite

Marvel is teaming up with Epic Games to bring a new Avengers: Infinity War limited event to the smash hit video game, Fortnight.

The “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode is coming to the Battle Royale and starts on Tuesday May 8th.  Each game will now see the Infinity Gauntlet added to the map, so whoever gets hold of it becomes Thanos and can wield the power of the Gauntlet.

The “Infinity Gauntlet” mode will be available for free across all Battle Royale-friendly platforms including PS4, Xbox, PC, Mac, and iOS.

Expect more details to be revealed when the mode goes live, such as it’s end date. Fortnite has also launched its fourth season this past week, which is themed on Superheroes and Villains, so it’s a natural crossover.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with the Avengers: Infinity War co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are massive Fornite fans.

“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe exclusively told EW. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of AvengersFortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

That would be Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games.

“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” Mustard recalled. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

My Take: This is a great team up and benefits both Marvel and Fortnite, especially with millions of players getting caught up in the excitement of trying to get hold of the Infinity Gauntlet.  I can’t wait to jump back in and see it in action.
