The Incredibles 2 Soundtrack Review

Disney’s latest animated movie, The Incredibles 2, sees Composer Michael Giacchino returning to create a new soundtrack, that features lots of new original tracks, plus new versions of classic songs from the original.

This album seems heavily inspired by spy movies from the 1960’s, like James Bond and I love that, since the whole soundtrack feels unique, in a world full of superhero movies, Pixar have created a unique style, which seems to fit perfectly.

There are other new 60’s style theme songs for Mr Incredible, Frozone and Elastigirl, which are cheesy but completely lovable, especially as I got that vibe from the original superhero television shows like Batman or Wonder Woman, which seems to be the time period that the composer seems inspired from, rather than the now traditional superhero style. And since I grew up watching classic 60’s shows and movies on the TV as a kid, this style feels like a completely natural fit, yet its fresh since its been over a decade since the last Incredibles movie.

The main theme is instantly recognisable and its scattered throughout the album, bringing in that classic Incredibles theme song, which is exactly what I want from a movie’s soundtrack, since those iconic songs are linked to the franchise.

With an album packed with nearly 40 different tracks, there is obviously some tracks which don’t stand out, but I would rather have a full album with all the different songs from the movie, that just the highlighted friendly version, which we often see with soundtrack releases.

One of the added benefits of this album is that there are few songs by Disney’s new acapella group, DCappella, which is a nice bonus, since they sing the original tune “The Glory Days” and the newer themes for Frozone and Mr Incredible. These are some of my favourite tracks from the album, but obviously aren’t used in the actual movie.

OVERALL: The Incredibles 2 soundtrack has been one of my favourite albums to listen to for a while, the classic sounds of the “Glory Days” of spy movies and superhero TV shows are back, with a full orchestra and delivering a fantastic sound, that is instantly recognisable as the Incredibles.
