Star Wars The Last Jedi: Rose Tico – Resistance Fighter Review

If you’ve ever wanted to know the story from Star Wars: The Last Jedi from the point of view from Rose, this book by Jason Fry shares her thoughts in a journal format.

While the core of the book retells aspects from the movie, there are little bits of background information on her, her sister and her family. Plus lots of little pull out sheets giving details on the First Order and the Resistance, such as the ships, details on the animals and much more. All of thee additional pieces of content help fill out the book and make it an enjoyable read.

There is some great artwork in the book, the sketches look fantastic and I like the overall theme of the book, the pull out pages with more details and nice artwork is a bonus, especially as they are scattered throughout the book.

I do think this book has a bit of an uphill battle, while it might appeal to younger Star Wars fans, Rose was a tricky character to sell to Star Wars fans as many felt she wasn’t a necessary character and also the backlash to The Last Jedi, means this book will be given the cold shoulder by many Star Wars fans. Which is a shame, since I find Rose to be one of the most normal characters in the franchise, making her one of the most relatable, which this book does a good job in conveying. It also helps set up the loss of her sister much better than the movie, since it explains their relationship and history.

It might be aimed at children, but I’m not a huge fan of retelling movies in a simple format. Personally I’d suggest spending the money on this book on either buying the movie or a different book, since this just doesn’t deliver anything new or meaningful. However if your a fan of rose or maybe want to get to know the character a little more, this might hit the mark.

Overall: Rose Tico – Resistance Fighter is a nice additional piece for children, but it feels unnecessary, which is a shame, I enjoyed the format of the book but it sits firmly in the average pile.
