Amazing Spider-Man #1 Review

Marvel have rebooted many of their long running comic book series recently and the Amazing Spider-Man is no exception, making it a good jumping in point for Spider-Man fans.

This issue is a bumper first edition, with a bonus side story included, which further expands on the after effects of the Spider-Man capturing Misterio, setting up what looks to be the return of Doctor Octopus.

One of the key aspects of this issue, is how the writers basically wreck Peter Parkers life by removing his degree from University, because a new computer system found his work was done by Doctor Octopus, since he was in a cloned body of Peter Parker and was living his life.  So Peter ends up losing his job, plus the respect of friends, Superheroes and family.

I did have a few problems with this, since in reality, this probably wouldn’t have made the front page of a New York newspaper, but since we have a human with Spider abilities and a flying Norse God in the story, real life needs to put on the shelf.  But its a interesting way of resetting Peter Parker back to a nobody and back to being a poor student.

I loved the interaction with the Avengers and Human Torch, bringing them in just helped set this up as a good beginner issue, which is exactly the point of this issue, reboot and reset, but more importantly bring new readers in.   While still dealing with issues from previous issues, such as his super villain roommate and the after effects of his problems with Doctor Octopus.

OVERALL:  A great reboot issue, with a big epic showdown with a quick fix, a great issue to jump in and try out. A easy recommendation.
