Star Wars #51 Review

Following the Empire taking out most of the Rebellion’s ships and armed forces, the fate of the Rebellion comes down to Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon, as they try to go toe to toe with the fleet, while trying to escape.  Seeing Darth Vader and Han Solo in an epic spaceship dog fight is certainly a highlight of this issue.

Meanwhile, Princess Leia tries to work out who has betrayed the Rebel Alliance, leading to a confrontation with Queen Trios, which is great to see.  We really get to see Leia at her best, she has always been a very strong and powerful female, which isn’t anything new to the Star Wars universe.  Plus the reasoning behind Queen Trios decision does make lots of sense.

The artwork is extremely impressive, especially the flight scenes, which seem to really capture that feeling of a dog fight and it just jumps off of the page.   This new story arc is really delivering a much strong art style than we’ve seen in previous issues, the photo realistic style seems to have been toned down and it isn’t as jarring.

As with most of the Star Wars comic books, there is never any real danger for the heroes, we know that Luke, Leia and Han will make it out, since this takes place between “A New Hope” and “Empire Strikes Back”, though any new character added to the story is usually much more likely to end up dead.

OVERALL:  Another great Star Wars comic book, it delivers exactly what you’d expect, big space fight scenes plus all the major characters are involved.  The artwork is amazing and as a whole, this comic is worth checking out.
