Star Wars Adventures #12 Review

Issue 12 of the Star Wars Adventure series by IDW Publishing features two stories, “Intermission” Part 1 and Tales from Wild Space! “A Small Push”.

“Intermission” sees Anakin Skywalker and Padme visit Caamas in the Cirsus System, where they meet with Actress, Risha Synata, who reenacts scenes between the Jedi and Sith.

As you might expect, all is not what it seems and soon enough the two heroes are running for their lives while defending themselves to droids.

It’s also interesting to see how the writer shows the romantic side between Anakin and Padme, its much more open and equals.  It actually helps normalise the romantic connection between the two characters and its refreshing.

While this series is aimed at a younger Star Wars audience, I would have been more than happy to have seen this story in a more traditional “Marvel” title, it doesn’t feel like its aimed at children, which is certainly a testament to the writing.

“A Small Push” is a simple story that sees a child being bullied and being outcast from her village, before falling and being rescued by Mace Windu, who shows her kindness when she needs it most.  It’s a nice bonus story, though its much more “child” focused, so adult readers might feel less interested.

The artwork is much more simple than you see in the “Marvel” Star Wars titles, but its bright and colorful, to match the target audience.  There is a difference between the two stories, I personally prefer the art style used in “A Small Push”, its cleaner and bolder.

OVERALL:  Star Wars Adventures continues to be a fun action packed comic book, its simple, its effective and it works.  It brings the entertainment back into Star Wars and feels like a Saturday morning cartoon.  I really enjoyed this issue, the second story might have been a little too simple for my liking, but the main story was great.
