Infinity Wars Prime #1 Review

Marvel continues to build its Infinity Wars major event, with Prime #1, which sees a variety of different characters involved, such as Thanos, Loki, Adam Warlock and Doctor Strange, showing the readers where some of the Infinity Stones currently are and what the new threat to the Universe is coming from.

With the Infinity War movie being such a huge hit, Marvel wants to try to bring that buzz to its comic books with this epic event, but I can’t help but think the issues I’ve read from the “Infinity Wars” initial prime stories would be too confusing for casual fans, which is a shame.  And I think anything with a #1 in it, should be a little more simple, to get new fans involved, which this book seems to have forgotten.

There was one scene from this comic, which I won’t spoil, that completely caught me off guard and shocked me, which is a major plus, though I’d imagine the Reality or Time Stones will eventually fix this issue.

However, there are some scenes involving two characters discussing the future events, but being so vague that it almost feels pointless.   And that’s one of the biggest issues with this book, it has a moment or two of greatness, but the rest of it seems a little pointless.  Though I’m sure the new Asgardian called “Flowa”, who is introduced, should become a bigger character in the main story.

OVERALL:   While the story is a little slow at places, there are some impressive scenes that I loved, especially those in the final few pages.   I also think the artwork is fantastic, so its worth checking out if you’ve been reading all the other “Prime” early issues, but casual fans should be aware, this isn’t anything like Infinity War the movie.

REVIEW SCORE:  8 out of 10
