Disneyland’s New Luxury Hotel Plans Cancelled

Earlier this year, Disney started closing down businesses in the West End of Downtown Disney in the Disneyland Resort, to make way for a new luxury hotel.

However these plans seem to have come to an end, as the Walt Disney Company have confirmed to the OC Register

“We’ve taken the time to review the economics of our proposed four-diamond hotel for Anaheim and have made the final decision to cancel the project,” spokeswoman Lisa Haines said in a statement.

“While this is disappointing for many,” she said, “the conditions and agreements that stimulated this investment in Anaheim no longer exist and we must therefore adjust our long-term investment strategy.”

The reason for this change is because City officials had previously agreed to redirect most of the taxes collected to help Disney offset the costs of building it, however since the location of the project had shifted, it could no longer receive the promised tax incentive.

Disney is planning on reopening many of the existing businesses there, including the Earl of Sandwich, which reopened this month, after it closed down in June.
