Kingdom Hearts Union X Being Pulled From Belgium Over Loot Boxes.

Square Enix have announced that they will be withdrawing their mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Union X from Belgium due to their strict gambling laws.  They are also doing the same to their Final Fantasy mobile game.

Here is the official announcement:

An important notice for all players residing in Belgium

We regret to inform you that due to the present uncertain legal status of “loot boxes” under Belgian law, KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ[Cross] will be withdrawn from service in Belgium in 30 days, on Dec. 6, 2018 (UTC) at the earliest.

What this means for you?

You will be able to continue playing until the next update scheduled on Dec. 6, 2018 (UTC) at the earliest. After the update, you will no longer be able to access or play the game or spend any unused in game currency or items. We recommend you to consume them up and enjoy the game before Dec. 6, 2018 (UTC). We want to thank you for your understanding and most importantly for playing KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ[Cross] and spending your time with us.

Belgium have been getting very strict about gambling and has become the focus of the gaming industry since the explosion of Loot Boxes in video games.  Both players and governments have been pushing back against companies who use Loot Boxes, such as EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 that suffered a major backlash, forcing EA to change the game.

EA and 2K have both been fighting with the Belgium government over their Loot Boxes, which has seen the companies remove the games from sale/download, rather than change the game, since the gambling element is extremely lucrative.

What do you think of Square Enix pulling Kingdom Hearts Union X?
