Frozen: The Musical Coming To London, Sydney & Hamburg

Following the huge success the Frozen musical has had on Broadway in the past year, Disney Theatrical Productions has announced it’s worldwide expansion plans for the Frozen, with international productions planned for Australia, London and Germany.

“Jennifer Lee, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez have crafted a gorgeous stage musical and we’re so grateful that Broadway has taken it to its heart,” said Thomas Schumacher, President & Producer, Disney Theatrical Productions. “That’s why every production will be handmade, with our brilliant director Michael Grandage and original creators working alongside the local teams to create the very best Frozen for each particular audience. We cannot wait to begin.”

Frozen’s first international production will premiere in Sydney, Australia at the Capitol Theatre in July 2020. The musical comes to the West End in London, England in fall 2020, reopening the Theatre Royal Drury Lane after a 20-month refurbishment, and a new production will be mounted in Hamburg, Germany in 2021. A North American tour is already set to launch this fall, with Frozen opening at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, California, on December 4, 2019.

The musical is based on Disney’s Oscar-winning 2013 animated film, with a book by Jennifer Lee, the film’s screenwriter and director (with Chris Buck); and music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who created the film’s score as well as its iconic Academy Award-winning song, “Let It Go.” Frozen’s director is Tony and Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage, and Tony Award winner Rob Ashford is choreographer.

Frozen, which is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions under the direction of Thomas Schumacher, boasts an acclaimed creative team that includes two-time Tony- and Olivier Award-winning costume designer Christopher Oram (Wolf Hall Parts 1 & 2, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Evita), Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz (Aladdin, Hello Dolly!, Springsteen on Broadway), Tony-nominated sound designer Peter Hylenski (Moulin Rouge!, Beetlejuice), Tony-winning video designer Finn Ross (Mean Girls, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), puppet designer Michael Curry (The Lion King, Beetlejuice); hair designer David Brian Brown (Kiss Me, Kate; War Paint), makeup designer Anne Ford-Coates (On Your Feet!, On the Twentieth Century), and special effects designer Jeremy Chernick (Aladdin, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). Tony Award-winning music supervisor Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, The Book of Mormon) leads the music team, joined by Tony nominee Dave Metzger (orchestrations), Chris Montan (executive music producer), David Chase (additional dance arrangements) and Brian Usifer ( music director).
