Disney Parks’ New Bo Peep Debuts

The new Bo Peep costumed character, in her Toy Story 4 outfit, has started to make the rounds. In the last few days, she appeared on the Disney Wonder cruise ship and at Pixar Animation Studio, ahead of her appearance at Disney Parks worldwide, this summer.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, Bo will be appearing at Pixar Pier in Disney’s California Adventure, at Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as the Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai parks. At Pixar, Bo posed with employees outside by Luxo Jr. and his ball, and inside with Josh Cooley, the movie’s director, pictured in this article.

Bo is a masked character, like earlier versions of the costume, not a “face character” like Cinderella or Rey. The choice visually connects her with the other Toy Story characters like Woody and Buzz.

In contrast to those characters, her head is relatively small, similar to “animegao kigurumi”, a style common in Japanese stage shows. The style has been used to mixed reaction by Disney in recent years. An outfit of Jessica Rabbit, which appeared one night only at Disneyland Paris, was considered “nightmare fuel” by many online commenters, but the characters of Big Hero 6 at the same park were generally well-received.
