Funko Review: Disney Treasures Lion King Box (Hot Topic)

For today’s review, I take a look at the most recent Funko Disney Treasures box, based off the animated classic The Lion King. Similar to the Dumbo box that I previously reviewed, this Hot Topic exclusive box was released in conjunction with the upcoming live action version of The Lion King, releasing next month on July 19th.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s in the box.

Scar with Flames Deluxe Pop! Vinyl

I believe for the first time with a Disney Treasures box, there is a Pop! Chase (1 in 6). For this Chase, Scar is surrounded with red flames instead of green, and the paint job on scar reflects this change.

This Deluxe Pop! Vinyl is from the scene in the Elephant Graveyard where Scar sings “Be Prepared”. For this review, I did not remove the Chase Scar from packaging, instead focusing on the regular Scar.

Scar is one of my favorite villains, so when I saw that this one was being released, I knew I had to have it. A friend of mine also wanted one, so I was excited that we got one of each for the photo shoot… we shall see who gets which one now.

Hula Timon “Wobble” Vinyl

This guy WILL be going up on my dashboard of my car alongside of my (now fading) Hula Olaf Wobble I got years back from the Disney Store. It’s quite awesome. Timon (voiced by Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa are the comedic relief in the movie, and I am not sure that the live action versions of them will even stand close in humor or look. We shall see.

Ed Pocket Pop! Keychain

Ed, the bumbling and dimwitted hyena in the movie, has been released in Pocket Pop! form. As you can see from my pictures, I have already removed the keychain part from the vinyl so he can be displayed on a shelf. He’s so cute!

Zazu Mystery Mini

After Scar takes over as King of the Pridelands, Zazu is jailed in the rib cage of a long dead animal. That is captured here by Funko in their Mystery Minis line. He looks just as annoyed in the vinyl as he does in the movie.

Overall, this is a very strong box, with all of the items being vinyl figures. There are no pens, pins, or patches. Four vinyls, with one being a Deluxe Pop! Vinyl. Great box.

If you are looking to pick up this Disney Treasures box for yourself, some Hot Topic stores here in the US should still have some available, or you can get it online… perhaps even on sale!
