Spider-Man Debut Issue Will Set World Record Auction Price

In less than 24 hours, there will be a new world record price for Spider-Man’s debut issue.

A copy of “Amazing Fantasy #15” is currently up for sale through online seller Heritage Auctions. With roughly 19 hours left, bidding has already reached USD$662,500. That smashes through the previous public auction record of $454,100, set by the same auction house in February 2016.

After Buyer’s Premium, that’s $795,000. The minimum next bid is $675,000.

Heritage Auctions has sold three 9.4 copies of this issue, previously. The value of comparable copies has climbed significantly: from $86,250 (March 2003), to $126,500 (May 2005), to $454,100 (February 2016), setting a public auction record.

Grades of 9.4 to 10 are considered “Near Mint” to “Gem Mint.” Only one unrestored copy of the issue has been certified as 9.6, and no restored copy has ever surpassed that grade.

Heritage Auctions’ most recent sale of a 9.6 grade restored copy went forĀ $28,680 in November 2015.
