Vacation Kingdom Know How: WDW Heat Essentials
(featured image from Disney)
The summer temperatures are already in full swing the Central Florida area with some days seeing 90 degrees already. Of course, that’s to be expected for a summer trip to Walt Disney World- heat and humidity and fun – it all goes together.
Knowing the temp is turned up, it’s time to also look at ways to beat it. There are a few items I suggest you pick up before your trip to Disney World to save money and agony over the heat..
Frog Toggs
Frog Toggs is a major brand of cooling towels to wear around your neck and that cools you down once they soaked in water. I have heard these are sold on Disney property, but as we all know about Disney prices, do yourself the favor and pick them up before you hit your vacation. Of course, there are other brands of similar products, such as smaller ones that I found at our local Dollar Tree before our last trip. These worked great for a little bit of a cool down and didn’t break the bank for us. A cost free way to go is to use a bandana the same way- just wet it in a sink and put it on your neck or around your wrist. This method won’t stay as cool for as long, but I bet most of us have an extra bandana or two lying around our houses most of the time.
Water Spray
Evian is just one company that makes a facial spray that is simply water and is simply refreshing. Not only is this spray good for traveling and combatting dry air on planes, it is a welcome cool down for a hot day in the parks. One of my good friends who frequents WDW with her kids swears by this product and also shared the hint that some beauty stores like Ulta might have these guys on sale sometimes. If these are a little out of your price range, it isn’t mineral water, but you could buy a small, cheap spray bottle and carry it with you and fill it up in the parks and spritz away. Regardless of how you get the cool mist, you will be happy you prepped and picked up a water sprayer. Hint: This could be much cheaper than buying those fan misters in the park.
Filtering Water Bottle
Speaking of water bottles, it’s crucial to stay hydrated. Yes, you can get free ice water from any quick service restaurants on property, but the cups are small and sometimes you’d rather not wait in line. The last time we visited the parks, this exact Brita filter bottle made our trip easier. We didn’t worry about buying any bottles of water due to this awesome bottle. Every morning we would fill it up with ice and water before heading into the parks and throw it in our bag before we hit the parks. It does sweat some, so if using ice, I would prefer throwing in a towel to wrap it in, but that’s so much better than $4 for a bottle of water or standing in line for water. The best part was being able to find a water fountain and fill it up when we got low- there was no gross Florida water taste. SCORE.
Poncho
With the Florida heat comes the almost daily pop up thunderstorms. As you can guess, many of the park guests head back to their rooms when this time of day comes. However, if you pack your poncho and spend a few minutes dodging the rain, you can really maximize your park day. Of course, there are ponchos for sale at most of the stores in the parks, but the prices they charge really can take a toll on your vacation budget, so plan ahead. By buying a few cheap ponchos ahead of time and carrying them with you, they won’t take up much space, save you money later in the day and possibly give you the opportunity to not have to wait in a huge line for the attraction you want to ride. They may not be glamourous, but they are certainly worth the investment!
HINT: Carry an empty Ziploc bag to put your wet poncho in if you wish to save it for another rainy day. When you get back to your hotel room, simply air it out and it will be ready for the next day’s pop up shower.
Did I miss your favorite thing to help you stay cool? Let me know!
I live and die by my filtered water bottle for the parks. I have to have water with me all the time and this saves so much money!
