Mattel & Hasbro In Talks To Merge

Toy makers Mattel and Hasbro are rumoured to be in talks to merge together according to Bloomberg.  Both toy companies have deals with Disney, with Hasbro holding the license for toys based on the Star Wars and Marvel, while Mattel making toys based on Disney brands like Frozen, however recently Hasbro has taken over many of the rights from Mattel for the Disney Princesses.

Hasbro approached Mattel about a potential transaction late last year, and the companies have held on-and-off-again talks about a deal, the people said, asking not to be identified as the situation isn’t public. Details of how a transaction might be structured couldn’t immediately be learned. The talks may not lead to a deal, the people said.

Both Hasbro and Mattel declined to comment to Bloomberg.

If the two companies do end up merging, it would make the company a huge “Force” with Disney’s characters being a major part of the business.
