Disney Store: 40 closures announced, the other 20 are unknown
The Disney Store has announced 40 of the 60 planned closures, but left fans wondering who’s next. This article has a list of the known closures, below.
The closure will end nine stores in California, seven in Texas, three stores in Arizona, two in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania, and one each in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, and Tennessee. It will also close two Canadian locations: one location in Alberta, and one in Ontario.
The two Indiana and one Kansas locations were the last ones in their states. The Disney Store left Wisconsin last summer.
The company is leaning further into their ecommerce offering, ShopDisney.
These 40 locations will all close “on or before March 23.”
But the company announced 60 new closures in North America, from their total of 200. When will the other closures be announced? There’s no word from Disney. This is in addition to 25 stores in the United States that were closed last year.
While the first round of closures was largely confined to older stores that had never been renovated — a strong sign of weak sales — this round includes many Imagination Park stores. Roseville, California was one of the top 10 highest revenue generating stores in the chain, according to an employee on one forum.
Many of the first round closures were also within the Simons brand of shopping centre, suggesting a larger agreement between the landlord and Disney. Similar patterns may be at play here, too. All three Arizona stores are owned by a company named Macerich, while the survivors are at Simons malls.

This is an outrage!
It’s just the same as earlier!
I don’t want the stores to close down! I want all the stores to remain open!
