Disney Store closures continuing? Final France location threatened: report

For over 25 years, The Disney Store has had a location on Paris’ Avenue des Champs-Élysées, called the “most beautiful avenue in the whole world.” The local mayor has confirmed to the media that this may change.

Le Parisien reported yesterday that consulting firm Alixio Revitalia was hired by Disney to find a buyer, news confirmed by mayor Jeanne d’Hauteserre.

While retailers generally aren’t their own landlords, instead leasing their properties, the sudden change is noteworthy. Six stores were closed in 2021, leaving only this location and two department stores spots.

Disney’s Champs-Élysées location, opened in 1993, is 600 square metres (6458 square feet) over two storeys. Staff told Le Parisien that they’ve “heard the rumour, but nothing more.” Rumours suggest a 2023 closing date.

The store has 44 permanent staff, which under a 2014 law would have to be reclassified to other positions in the company.
