Exploring Disney, Marvel, Star Wars at Fan Expo Canada’s Biggest Booths

My first stop in the sprawling large Fan Expo Canada every year are the show partners, in the South Hall. Each taking up a sizeable footprint, they generally feature new television series or movies, and new products. As is only natural, many of these exhibitors had Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars on display.

DisKingdom has separate coverage of the Star Wars and Marvel offerings from LEGO. Hasbro’s lineup will be shared in a separate post.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Right as you start to descend into the South Hall, basically the first thing you see is this promotion for Marvel’s Wolverine, a PS5 video game out in less than a month. It was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Beyond the eye-catching photo op, there was a “claw” game of a different sort, where you had the opportunity to win a comic written by the game’s narrative director, Walt Williams.A man in a Wolverine cowl begins to play the game.

AMD

Computer company AMD’s footprint allowed the public to play games, go for a prize in a claw machine, or watch head-to-head battles in popular games. I stopped for a second to watch a Marvel Rivals battle.

Disney Consumer Products

After blowing things out of the park for a few years running, with emersive displays based on shows like Agatha All Along and Percy Jackson, Disney Plus skipped this year. In its place was Disney Consumer Products, who offered three lineups for those wanting professional photographs with Star Wars, Toy Story, or Marvel themed images.

The booth was surrounded by massive display cases, filled with merchandise based on the same three franchises. Products were labelled with their brand, including Joe Fresh, Mad Engine, LEGO, Hasbro, Mattel, Old Navy, Funko, and others. At four points around the booth, deluxe Halloween costumes from Jazwares’ Primalux line were on mannequins.

RSVLTS

At least as of 1 in the afternoon, Friday, there were still Mulan exclusive shirts available from Thursday, as well as both of Friday’s offerings, The Muppets and a Toronto raccoon. Other Disney offerings at the show included Hei Hei, blueprints for Dr. Doom’s suit, Grogu, and The Muppet Show arches. But what caught my eye the most were The Haunted Mansion shirts, both of the stretching room portraits, and of a variety of other characters.

Sunday plans

Under the category of “how did I miss it?,” Cakeworthy. It’s a Canadian clothing brand featuring pop culture designs, including con exclusive shirts based on Muppet Babies and Disney Villains. Looking at the map, WETA drew me away with their The Lord of the Rings merch display. I shall return.

Another book I didn’t photograph Friday, Parthava Coin. It turns out that they’re an official distributor for proper mints worldwide including the Royal Canadian Mint, Swissmint, and others. From a quick glance, they had Marvel coins in stock.
