Mickey Mouse #3 (#312) Review

In this bumper edition of the Mickey Mouse comic book, we are treated to 5 stories featuring Mickey Mouse and friends.

One of the main stories is “The Mysterious Crystal Ball” from Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 164-166 (1954) and comes in three parts spread throughout the comic and sees Mickey tricked by some crooks into thinking he is a fortune teller and the crooks distract the police long enough to rob a bank. As you might expect, Mickey works out something isn’t right and saves the day in a fun story that will keep younger audiences happy.

We are treated to a quick story featuring Goofy’s pet bird. This is a nice little touch and work well between the stories, “Polly Coddled” from Mickey Mouse Sunday comic strip (1950) sees Goofy’s bird Ellesworth, having girl issues in a nice quick funny story.  And there is also another story involving Ellesworth and Horace called “Mynah Madness” from Mickey Mouse Sunday comic strip (1953) which is pretty good.

Another quick store is called “Reform and Void” from Mickey Mouse daily comic strip (1994) and in this story, Mickey is visited by the reformed monkeys, Bad Ecks and DoubleX who are inventing lots of useless inventions until they slip back to their old ways and kidnap Mickey & Minnie before being outsmarted and returned to jail. This story is much shorter than the others and having a variety of different length stories makes this collection much more appealing and easy to pick up and go.

“The ‘Lawn’atic” from British Mickey Mouse Annual 9 (1938) is a short older Goofy story that was pretty funny as Goofy talks himself out of borrowing Mickey’s lawnmower.

This edition features an Epcot themed variant cover with Mickey & Goofy scuba diving in reference to the Seas building in Epcot.

Overall a bumper edition with a real solid story plus a load of bonus comics that will keep everyone entertained.
