Figment 2 #1 Review
Figment and the Dreamfinder have returned with a brand new 5 part comic book series from Marvel’s Disney Kingdom division. Series 2 kicks off with our heroes traveling through time to a version of today with a setting, slightly familiar but different to today, with classic iconic buildings from Walt Disney World’s Epcot such as Spaceship Earth and the Imagination Pavilion taking center stage as a academy, which was set up in their honor following the events of the first series with them saving London.
I’ve been looking forward to the return of Figment for a while now and this comic book didn’t disappoint, they are both fish out of water in modern times and I’m really looking forward to the next issue. Adding more Disney content to Marvel’s impressive line up is a good thing, brand new stories featuring some classic characters and attractions is something I hope we see more of in the future.
While the story takes a little time to get going, as the whole first scene doesn’t mean much yet, it does a great job in setting up for story for this series and giving you a gist of who the main characters are. I instantly wanted to know what was going to happen next.
I personally love the artwork and design from this book as it has that “Disney” charm, so it feels different to other Disney comics I read and with a different tone to the usual Marvel comics I read. Both characters come across as lovable time travelers who are slightly naive, however they have nothing but goodness in their hearts. With the time traveling aspect to the story, its great that they have thrown a few gags in the story, especially with the Dreamfinder and modern technology like smartphones and selfies.
I loved reading this comic, so much, I instantly went back and read it again, Figment has been a part of my life since my first trip to Epcot as a child in the 80’s and getting a brand new story and a more detail on these characters is something I’ve looking forward to, with each new book.
For Figment fans, this is without doubt well worth checking out, either as a physical version or on the digital Marvel app. And if you fancy a different style of Marvel comic book, then this is worth checking out. I loved it from start to finish and is a great read for all ages and I would happily recommend it to any Disney fan, plus the little nods to Epcot are a great treat.
