Marvel Developing A New Warriors Show Featuring Squirrel Girl

Its being reported that ABC Studios and Marvel are developing a new comedy series based on the New Warriors, which will be focused on Squirrel Girl, the show is set to be a half-hour show and is being shopped around cable and streaming outlets.

The New Warriors are a team of young teenage superheroes, with Squirrel Girl, who has super-speed, strength and can talk with Squirrels, as the main character. Other characters included in the team are Firestar, Marvel Boy, Scarlet Spider, Namorita, Nova and Speedball.

Marvel have been very successful with its more adult oriented shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and now Marvel is looking to go after a younger audience with upcoming shows like Cloak and Dagger coming to Freeform and Runaways coming to Hulu.

Our Take:

I think its great to see Marvel expanding what characters fans get to see on the screen, and Squirrel Girl would no doubt become even more popular with a new series.   I do however worry that we could possibly have too many shows set to hit our screens soon, I just hope they spread them out over the year (unlike the DC shows which all run through the winter).
