The Disney Collector’s Time Capsule: Pirates of the Caribbean

Disney releases so many amazing products each month that we often forget about collectibles from the past. I thought it would be fun to take a look at some items that we may actually love to own but didn’t know existed. Using the eBay sold listings function, let’s see what treasures were snatched up during the past week.

This week’s theme, inspired by the new Disney Tradition “Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life” by Jim Shore, is the beloved Disney Parks attraction Pirates of the Caribbean.

Featuring the same scene as Jim Shore’s new piece, the first item that caught my eye is this very detailed resin frame.  It is an accurate depiction of the cell where the prisoners attempt to lure the dog to give them the key.  At only $20, this is a great item for all of ye’ land lovers of this timeless ride.

Argh!  Did you ever think a pirate could be so adorable?  Look at this set of 7 cuties pins from 2007 featuring Mickey and the gang dressed as characters from the hit movie!  These pins are originally packaged in a boxed set, but at only $11.36 they are probably the cutest pirates you’ll ever find.

This Disney Store exclusive snow globe depicts the chilling image of the skeleton pirate steering the ship for eternity.  It plays the catchy tune “Yo Ho” from the attraction and even has a battery operated blower to swirl the tiny confetti around and create a glittery storm for the skeleton to endure.  You can add this snow globe to your treasure chest for $40.

Here is a very fine piece that went for a lot more booty this week: A limited edition of 1500 WDCC figure from the year 2000.  I love how the artist depicts the man in the well spitting out water as the pirate dunks him and allows me to vividly recall the sights and sounds of the ride.  Though similar in a realistic style to the resin frame, this rare piece of art is definitely for a more serious collector as the bidding ended at $400.
