George Lucas Apologizes For Disney Remark

This past week, Star Wars creator George Lucas referred to the franchise’s new owners at Disney as “white slavers” in an interview on the Charlie Rose Show, before quickly stopping what he said and shortly after the interview went out, George Lucas apologized, saying it was a “very inappropriate analogy” and felt it important to say he’s “thrilled” that Disney owns the Star wars franchise.

“I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks.

Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy.”

This isn’t the first time he has made a comment about his true feelings for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he hasn’t been happy with the retro feel to the movie.

“Every movie, I worked very hard to make them different. I made them completely different—different planets, different spaceships to make it new.”

George Lucas has said that he has found it difficult to deal with Disney taking Star Wars in a different direction and comparing it to a relationship breakup.
