Zootopia Renamed Zootropolis In Europe

zootropolis

Earlier today, Disney announced a new collection of Zootopia Tsum Tsum’s that will be hitting Disney Store in February and many European collectors noticed a different title for the movie, called Zootropolis.

Occasionally titles of movies are changed in different regions, such as Avengers, which was called Avengers Assemble in the UK due to a TV show from the 60’s, that could have caused confusion for some British viewers (I’ve had the exact opposite happen to me while searching through the TV guide, hoping to catch the new animated TV series only to find John Steel and Emma Peel, and being slightly disappointed).

According to the UK Intellectual Property Office’s website, the Givskud Zoo in Denmark has had the name ‘Zootopia’ trademarked since February 2010.   And the zoo is planning on using the name for what has been called ‘the world’s most advanced zoo’, which is expected to open in 2019.   With the trademark including the right to produce clothing, games, and educational services using the name ‘Zootopia’, Disney would have had difficulties producing merchandise.  However Zootropolis, is a completely unique trademark in the UK.

It will also be released a few weeks later than in the US, with a March 24th release date in Europe.

What do you think of the name Zootropolis?
