Donald is awakened from a nightmare involving past Duck Avenger villains by the phone call of an ill tempered Scrooge McDuck. He informs Donald that is bringing in potential clients to the Ducklair Tower and needs to spruce up the tower for their arrival.

Donald heads to his secret lair to get himself a tall order of pancakes. One informs him there are more important matters to attend to as during the time Donald was asleep, he detected someone with the capabilities of flying , soaring through Duckburg the night before. The mysterious flying man committed a break-in yet stole nothing, baffling Duckburg’s men in blue.

Later on that night, One informs the Duck Avenger that the flying fiend has struck again , heading towards Boxy Brown’s Storage Depot showing a sign of a obsession with boxes. He soon heads in the depot to apprehend whoever is causing these break-ins. The perpetrator believes Duck Avenger to be a mutant as his wording clues us that he is from the far future.

One Buk-HawHaw later, the villain gets the drop on Duck Avenger with his abilities sneaking behind him at the nick of speed knocking him out with a swift punch. By the time Duck Avenger awakens, the alarm gets triggered leaving him no choice but to escape before the cops arrive. Donald thinks he safely got away without detection but unfortunately….

Seems like the police found the footage they needed to identify the Box bandit, turns out it was Duck Avenger…. wait what… that can’t be right. Poor Donald’s feathers just got clipped. Angus is of course having a field day with this as Lyla wonders what the real thief wants with the box believing that the Duck Avenger has been framed.

One and Donald look over security footage caught of the mysterious thief to find any clues to his tricks. But one quick ring of the door-bell is enough to get their attention away as Scrooge has arrived with his potential buyers.

The buyers turns out to be the news division, wanting to get away from the drama of the soap operas filmed at the main studio. This proves to be a danger to Donald and his superhero persona due to his biggest threat (Angus) potentially sharing the same building as him.

The tour continues as the tension between Donald and Angus continues with some small pranks devised by One towards Angus. Donald tries to cover up for the Avenger but Angus will have none of it believing him to be a good for nothing thief.

Lyla lets out that the item stolen was a sample of Tetragonium, a new synthetic fiber that is said to be the most durable in the world thus far. Donald ponders why the thief would settle for a small sample rather than steal the formula to make more of it.

Later on that morning, the fiend attacks a truck containing another bit of sample as he goes through his attack, one joke at a time. ( And I think the translator is trying to get my attention now with the nod to another Disney crime fighting duck)

Soon after, he raids a store for a few common supplies as part of his fiendish plan. Where was Duck Avenger during all of this ? One and Donald have been trying to identify something that peeked One’s interest. Apparently, Lyla has apparently the ability to be unaffected by One’s scanners, this somehow raises Donald’s curiosity.

Just what is up with Lyla ? Could she be an alien spy for the Evronians ? A robot ? A stalker ? Find out when you pick up a copy of Disney Duck Avenger #1.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The real breakout star of this issue is no doubt the villain Red Raider and his trademark laugh: Buk-HawHaw !!!

His humour really solidified this issue for me, just the way he calmly outsmarts Duck Avenger and stole from the general store really made me laugh.I really hope to see more of him in the future issues of Disney Duck Avenger. But another big factor of this issue is the reveal of who Lyla really is.

She is a cop from the future, sent to stop the antics of Red Raider. At first I thought she was going to be a double agent for the Evronians because as they say, it’s the one you least expect.Lyla makes for a good ally for Donald Duck and Duck Avenger. Her time powers could come in real handy in the future and maybe a romantic interest for One ? Who knows, we have 50 more issues to read to find out what happens to our protagonists.

BTW, Claudio Sciarrone, the artist of this issue did draw us a sketch of Duck Avenger for his interview with DISKingdom which can be found in the Comics section of the site.
