LucasFilm Respond To Carrie Fisher CGI Rumors

Following the death of Carrie Fisher, many have been speculating on how the Star Wars franchise could continue without her. She had apparently filmed all her scenes for Star Wars Episode VIII, but the question about Episode IX is still in the air. Will they kill General Leia off? Or will they use CGI like they did in Rogue One?

In a rare statement, LucasFilm said:

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

It’s interesting to see LucasFilm directly answering the question about using CGI to recreate Princess/General Leia, with the reaction from fans about Tarkin in Rogue One, the line had been blurred and hopefully this statement might calm down the rumours, however until Episode VIII and possibly IX are released, we might not see how Carrie Fisher’s death will be dealt with.

What do you think of this statement?
