Review: NBX Vinimates Series 2 (Diamond Select)

For today’s review, I take a look at Series 2 of the Nightmare Before Christmas (NBX) Vinimates from Diamond Select Toys. Featuring Santa Claus, Zero, and Pumpkin King Jack Skellington, this series adds upon what was started in Series 1, to bring beloved characters from this movie to Vinimate form.

Now, some of you might still be asking: “What is a Vinimate?”. Vinimates are large scale, non-articulated vinyl figure versions of Diamond Select’s popular Minimates line of figures. While the Vinimates character cannot be moved (aside from possibly a rotating head), the larger scale design of the Minimates depiction allows for greater details and a bit more fluid posing. More and more Diamond Select have been releasing popular franchises into this new medium, including Pirates of the CaribbeanBeetlejuiceGhostbusters, and soon-to-released Kingdom Hearts. I feel, however, that their NBX line of Vinimates are some of the better ones to date.

Let’s take a closer look at NBX Series 2.

Santa is seen here quite upset with Jack Skellington for almost ruining Christmas.

Then we have Pumpkin King Jack Skellington, with his flame torch, about to light himself ablaze at the end of the Halloween festivities.

Finally, here is Zero, floating above his doghouse tombstone.

Overall, I really like these additions to the NBX line of Vinimates, and I hope they continue this line in the future. In addition to the regular three releases you see here, Hot Topic stores also have Glow-in-the-Dark exclusives of Pumpkin King Jack and Zero… in case any of you are completionists out there.

If you are looking to add these three to your collection, or any of the other figures in the NBX Vinimates line, check out Entertainment Earth.

Special thanks to the team from Diamond Select Toys for sending these over for me to review.
