Fox Disney Deal Could Cost 5,000 To 10,000 Jobs

As with any merger or purchase, many experts are predicting that the purchase of 21st Century Fox by Disney could result in some major job losses, estimates of 5,000 to 10,000 people could be effected.

Analysts have said that by merging the two companies, could save Disney $2 billion in synergies, with the majority of this coming from job losses.  With these job cuts taking place globally between many different departments.  According to the latest annual reports, Disney currently employs 195,000 people compared to Fox’s 22,000.

Rupert Murdoch sent a memo to employees yesterday, saying “We are deeply committed to finding opportunities for our people as well as ensuring that anyone impacted is well taken care of”.   And Fox will continue to operate independently as they do now and there will be no related changes to positions or responsibilities.

With Disney CEO Bob Iger saying that many of these efficiencies might take years to achieve as the deal isn’t expected to be completed until 2019 and won’t fully be intergrated until 2021.

So while the job cuts might be coming, they might not be happening straight away.
