Amazing Spider-Man #4 Review

Issue 4 of the Amazing Spider-Man continues to see Peter Parker struggle with the idea of being a “normal” person, while watching Spider-Man off fighting crime across New York City. This whole dynamic is a very appealing storyline, I’ve spent decades with the main storyline being the conflict between his two worlds, yet when its made simpler, something doesn’t feel right.

And that’s where the hook for this story is going, something isn’t right, Peter Parker has found out details from the lab rats, that there are issues with being split into two, and its very noticeable that something isn’t right with Spider-Man. And I love this aspect, we get to see a reckless, bold Spider-Man, who isn’t tied into the “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility” line, he is just out there having fun and that isn’t going to work out well. And those iconic words seem like the main premise of this, Peter Parker has the Responsibility, while Spider-Man has the Power.

The scenes with them together are pretty fun, with Spider-Man just blowing Peter Parker off, though he doesn’t given in instantly. The artwork once again feels great, its bright, bold and colorful, with plenty of detail. It’s has a traditional style that I just enjoy.

Another interesting side story is also being introduced with Mendel Stromm sliding in as the next villain for Spidey to face off with, which should be interesting, since it looks like they need a legitimate threat to come together again.

OVERALL: Amazing Spider-Man feels like its gone back to the 90’s with over the top stories, humour and style, which I love. It’s a fun, comic book romp, that I have been enjoying greatly.
