New hours, health and safety measures

Many stores now have the hours of 11 am to 7 pm from Monday to Saturday, and 11 am to 6 pm on Sundays, however there are a number of stores with different hours. Check the mall’s website or stores.shopdisney.com to confirm.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Disney’s Canadian shops are following the same guidelines as its American neighbours. They include requiring face covering, physical distancing of 6 feet, and maximum capacities. (At Mississauga’s Square One Shopping Centre, that capacity is 28 people.) The store itself will clean frequently throughout the day, has postponed in-store events (including the Opening Ceremony), and requiring contactless payment.

Why Winnie in the graphic?

Writer A. A. Milne created Winnie the Pooh (or technically Winnie-the-Pooh) based on a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne. That toy was named in part for a bear in the London Zoo, which had served as the mascot for Canada’s The Fort Garry Horse armoured regiment in the First World War.

Canadians — including yours truly — are particularly fond of the silly ol’ bear. Winnipeg used to have an annual Pooh festival, while the Ontario town the bear was from continues to host Winnie’s Hometown Festival. The 32nd Annual event won’t be happening in person, this August, but may happen virtually.
