California, Virginia Stores Added to Closing List: Down to 23

In late August, The Disney Store announced the closure of 60 stores to happen “on or before September 15,” knocking their total down to just 25. Generally, the chain waits until one set of stores is closed, before announcing the next closures.

No such luck. Friday, Disney announced the closure of two more stores in the United States:

Tyson’s Corner Centre, McLean, Virginia was the first Disney Store in the Baltimore area, opening in October 1988. It’s the last store in the state.

Arden Fair, Sacramento, California opened in May 1990, as a part of the mall’s $60-million expansion. It’s the last traditional store in the state. Its closure will leave four outlet stores in California: Camarillo, Commerce, Ontario, and San Diego.

They will close “on or before September 22, 2021.” Both are Macerich malls.

Of the 23 stores after these closures, 21 of them will be outlets. The only surviving main line stores (for now) are Times Square, New York City and The Bellevue Collection, Bellevue, Washington.

In the United Kingdom, the location at Swansea’s The Quadrant Shopping Centre closed last week.

In August, UK locations at XSITE Braehead (Glasgow), Hounds Hill Shopping Centre (Blackpool), St. Enoch Centre (Glasgow), Queensgate Centre (Peterborough), Lakeside Shopping Centre (Thurrock), The Meadowhall Centre (Sheffield), Cribbs Causeway Mall (Bristol), and Derbion (Derby) closed.
