A “Lin-tastic” Day (Disney’s “Moana” with Lin-Manuel Miranda)

All eyes have been on the Walt Disney Animation Studios since their formal announcement of Moana, their next animated musical. In theatres this November, Moana tells the sea-voyaging story of a young girl from Oceania, a demi-god, and a few animal companions. Despite featuring Dwayne Johnson as Maui and the introduction of Auli’i Cravalho as the titular character, Tony and Grammy award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda has been the centre of attention. Hamilton mania has swept across the globe and Disney has been lucky enough to have him work on Star Wars, star in the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, and lend his writing talents to the Moana creative team. On August 7th, Walt Disney Animation Studios Instagram account was taken over by Lin, spreading #linstagram all over social media.

The day started out simple with Lin introducing the Instagram world to Ron Clements, Jon Musker, and his tiny cup of coffee. Upon realizing there was no character limit, like on Twitter, Lin proceeded to release his inner Mary Poppins.

Soon, the day became filled with snippets of classic Disney songs, including one “name-that-tune”. With guest appearances by Chuggington, Maui, and Moana, Lin maneuvered through press photos and backstage happenings while entertaining viewers with his humour and vocals. To close out this exciting day, Lin was joined by some special guests for a sneak peak at one of his original songs for Moana. Part of the song was featured in the first official trailer, but this time Lin included a few new lines. Check out a few of the highlights below.
