First Look At “Disney Lorcana” At Nuremberg Toy Fair 2023
At the Nuremberg Toy Fair, Ravensburg revealed new details on the upcoming “Disney Lorcana” trading card game, which will be launched internationally starting in August 2023. This brand-new trading card game (TCG) will feature beloved Disney characters in both original and reimagined art styles that live in an all-new world with unique gameplay. The game is suitable for beginner and seasoned TCG players, Disney fans as well as collectors alike. Until now, fans only knew some cards, but today Ravensburger is showing the products available from September for the first time and also reveals new characters.
“Disney Lorcana” is the most ambitious project in Ravensburger’s recent history“, Florian Baldenhofer, International Category Director New Games, explained during the Press Preview. The game is set in the rich and fantastical world of Lorcana, a combination of the words Lore and Arcana. Players will take on the mantle of Illumineer, a powerful sorcerer, and band together Disney characters from Lorcana’s “The Great Illuminary,” a treasury of all Disney songs and stories ever made.
John Balen, Vice President of Product Design at Disney said in a statement:
“The breadth and scope of Disney characters represented in this game will be unprecedented, and it will contain more original Disney artwork than any other single product ever created. Our dedicated Disney product design team has enjoyed collaborating with Ravensburger and our Walt Disney Animation Studios partners to create a unique Disney experience for fans of all ages to take home.”
Until now, fans only knew some characters, including Elsa, Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil and Robin Hood. Today, Ravensburger is showing the products available from September for the first time and is also unveiling three new characters, Aurora, Hades and Mulan.
International launch starting August 2023
The first set of collectible trading card game Disney Lorcana will be released in Germany, the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and beyond starting in August 2023. In Germany, it will first launch at local game stores on August 18th, supported by a robust organized play program, and at mass retail starting on September 1st. Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will feature a line-up of products and accessories:
Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will include more than 200 game cards that will be collectible via three starter decks, a gift set, booster packs and the “Illumineer’s Trove”. To help further immerse players in the world of Disney Lorcana, themed playmats, card sleeves, deck boxes and card portfolios featuring Disney Lorcana art will also be available at launch.
Starter decks will provide a balanced and ready-to-play game deck. Players will be able to choose from three different options that each include a specific list of 60 cards in two of the six “inks” — Amber and Amethyst, Emerald and Ruby, or Steel and Sapphire. Starter decks will also include one booster pack and game tokens.
A booster pack will contain 12 randomized game cards, including one foil card and two cards with rarities of rare, super rare, or legendary.
The Illumineer’s Trove will be the ultimate introduction to Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter. It will include eight booster packs, two deck boxes and a player’s guide, all housed in a themed storage box.
The gift set will feature Mulan – Imperial Soldier and Hades – King of Olympus. It will include two collectable oversized foil cards, two foil game cards, four boosters and game tokens.
Depending on the market, Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter will be available in English, French, and/or German. Four sets a year will be released.
