Canada: Toys”R”Us Closures Happening Rapidly, 13 to 9 Within Week

Toys “R” Us still had 13 locations on Saturday, when DisKingdom.com last reported on the chain. Today, it’s down to nine, with the four closure happening quieter than ever before.

The latest locations to closure were in Barrie, Kildonan, Nepean, and North Edmonton.

Barrie’s location seems to have closed either Tuesday, July 28 or Wednesday, July 29. It was still listed at 11 am on the official website, when a Reddit post was made, but removed before 6:30 am today. The Ontario city had two stores, with the other closing in 2025. On July 17, BarrieToday.com reported that the store offered only that their closure would be “very fast.”

The Kildonan store, in Winnipeg, deferred The Winnipeg Free Press to its head office when asked about a closure date, early in July, and the head office didn’t reply. A second operates in Polo Park.

Nepean is a largely residential community in Ottawa, and this location’s closure has received little if perhaps no media coverage locally.

Like Winnipeg, Edmonton had two locations until the newest closures. North Edmonton was still actively replying to Google Maps business reviews in recent weeks, recieving thirty pallets of merchandise three weeks ago. One suspects that South Edmonton is now preparing for a massive shipment itself.

These closures leave stores in Hamilton, Kitchener, Lethbridge, Polo Park (Winnipeg), Regina, Sarnia, Sherway (Toronto’s Etobicoke), and South Edmonton.
