Final Quebec Toys”R”Us Closes, Saskatchewan Down to One Location

The Saint-Bruno and Saskatoon locations of Toys”R”Us have closed, DisKingdom has learned.

Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville’s location was located in an outbuilding of the Promenades St-Bruno shopping mall, the largest in Quebec’s Montérégie region, just east of Montreal. Advertising material looking to sell the building noted 42,049 square feet on approximately 4.12 acres.

It’s unclear when this location closed, but they were removed from the Toys”R”Us Canada website between early morning Sunday, and early Tuesday morning.

The Saskatoon location closed yesterday, Monday, May 25. The location opened in 1992, in Midtown Plaza, now Midtown Shopping Centre. The mall was then owned by Cadillac Fairview.

Locations opened in Sherbrooke and Lethbridge on the same day, October 17, bringing the national total to 44 locations. The Lethbridge location survives. The Mayor shared ribbon-cutting duties with a child, Chelsea Vickaryous, who was interviewed by the Regina Leader-Post this February.

As of that February story, the chain had dropped to 22 stores. Saskatoon and Saint-Bruno’s closures bring them to 16 locations, which will be 15 after the announced closure of Kingston, which DisKingdom reported on Sunday.

Those fifteen locations are split between two in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one in Regina, Saskatchewan, three in Alberta (Lethbridge, North Edmonton, South Edmonton), and ten in Ontario (Barrie, Brampton, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener, Nepean, Sarnia, Sherway, Vaughan Mills, Whitby) Toys”R”Us Canada is owned domestically, and not connected to the chain run by Disney Store Limited Time operator Go! Retail Group.

A number of Toys”R”Us locations checked during the preparation of this article were promoting Toy Story 5 merchandise they had received.
