Tetsuya Nomura Discusses Gummi Ships, Magic & Pixar For Kingdom Hearts 3
Following the reveal of the new Kingdom Hearts 3 Toy Story trailer at the D23 Expo, game director, Tetsuya Nomura spoke with a few different game journalists about the game.
GameInformer asked him if the Gummi Ship will be returning, to which he replied:
“In terms of the Gummi Ship making its return, I can confirm on that, but how it is or what has become of it, we’re not able to reveal it at this point,” Nomura said. “We ask you to stay tuned for more information.”
Nomura also revealed to GameInformer that Pixar wanted something different from Disney with regards to their characters.
“[Pixar] preferred for us to not follow the film directly,” Nomura explained. “They said, ‘Please create something original to Kingdom Hearts,’ so we did not draw any inspiration from the films. It is completely original and exclusive to Kingdom Hearts, so you can almost say it’s a sequel of some sort.”
While IGN asked him about the use of Magic within the game.
“The background of the tier of the magic, up until now, only King Mickey was able to utilize the most powerful form of magic [which was “Stopza” in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance]. It has existed, and then in 2.8, as Aqua becomes Key Blade Master, she is also able to control the highest form of certain magic. As you noticed, it is a higher tier of magic, and Sora is going to be able to use that in Kingdom Hearts III as well.”
