Disney Spooky Halloween Collection Album Review
With Halloween this month, Disney have released a new collection of “Spooky” themed classic songs from the Disney vault. With 22 tracks from animated movies like Nightmare Before Christmas, live action movies like Pete’s Dragons and TV shows like Descendants, this packed album is a good way of getting prepped for Halloween season.
Most of the big movie villains musical numbers are included on the album, such as Ursula’s “Poor Unfortunate Souls”, Scar’s “Be Prepared”, Mother Gothel’s “Mother Knows Best”, Kaa’s “Trust In Me” and many more.
One of the real highlights for me was “Every Little Piece” from Pete’s Dragon, which is one of my favourite movies and I’m sure a few people must have looked at me funny as I was walking along since I couldn’t help but sing along during this one. Generally Disney doesn’t always put songs from this movie into its collections, especially once the recent remake was announced.
Other highlights for me include “Friends On The Other Side” from Princess and the Frog and I will have to admit, “Monster Mash” by Goofy was a song that put a huge smile across my face while listening to the album.
Nothing on this collection is unique, with all of these songs available else where, but this album does bring some nice songs together, however there are a few tracks which feel like a filler, such as the song Monsters Inc which just sounded like a generic soundtrack.
A few of the tracks on the album feel like the term “Spooky” has been used a little loosely, such as the “Pink Elephants” song from Dumbo, which I never view as a villain or baddie song.
There are also a few songs from the album that aren’t from the main movies, like Descendants and “Your Only Second Rate” from the Return of Jafar Aladdin sequel, which again felt like a filler when you consider the major songs included in this collection. Though I do wish they had added the Haunted Mansion theme and “Boo To You” from the Halloween party parade at Walt Disney World, since those are classic Disney Halloween songs to me.
With a collection of this type, there are some movies that I don’t feel as connected to, such as the main villain songs from Pocahontas and Hunchback of Notre Dame plus a few songs from the Nightmare Before Christmas. But fans of those movies will obviously enjoy these tracks.
It’s also worth noting that the CD version in the UK is over half the price of a digital version, so its worth shopping around a little first. And for under a fiver, you can’t go wrong with the amount of songs on this album, even if you only liked a few tracks, it would be worth picking up.
I would think that this album has a short play life as I would imagine it would only come out during the Halloween period, but much like those Christmas albums that we listen to year after year, this is a nice little collection to get you into the Halloween spirit and it does exactly what it should do.

Disney’s Spooky Halloween Collection is a good solid selection of themed tracks from a wide selection of movies and shows, that offers great value for money (especially for the CD version), I know I’ll be playing this album a few more times before all the Halloween decorations come down and the Christmas albums come out of retirement!
