Kermit and Miss Piggy host Disney’s Hollywood Studios 35th Anniversary event

It’s hard to imagine, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been open 35 years. The park celebrated today with a short ceremony, hosted by Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

While last year’s Jollywood Nights event featured the characters performed to a pre-recorded audio track, the one-time “Celebrating Magic and Adventure Show” indeed used official performers Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson. Another special element was that a selection of 35-year cast members were on hand in the front row, receiving a well earned round of applause from the audience.

The show included speeches and a short dance routine with characters.

This writer watched the whole show, but if nothing else, watch the entertainment segments.

One disappointment: the park’s vice-president talked of the films animated on-site, like Lilo and Stitch and Brother Bear. Between them and the park’s rich history of entertainment like theĀ Hunchback stage show and Mulan parade, I wish they had leaned into their own history a bit more. The characters they chose are most associated with Magic Kingdom, not the Studios. That, or even a chorus line dressed in 1930s flare.
